So many words, metaphors and catch-phrases
are bantered around coaching circles with few people actually understanding
how to do them in practice.
It’s one thing to know the importance
of building a relationship with your client, but how do you actually
do it? It’s another thing to ask open questions, but how do you
really know what to ask next or are you just taking a stab in the dark?
As coaches, we’ve got to be present
and non-judgemental, but that can be pretty hard to do… that is
unless you know how. What’s more, if you find yourself
focussing just on coaching competencies and fail to understand the processes
your clients are going through, you’re overlooking an important
part of the coaching equation.
‘But what about this dance of coaching
that everyone’s doing?’ you ask. You thought that’s
about the coach and client dancing together, right? Little do you know!
